A VHF with digital selective calling widens your safety margin substantially, so Standard Horizon outfitted the HX890 with built-in GPS. That also gets you basic navigation functions, along with other features, including a rechargeable lithium-ion battery and two scrambler systems to ensure secure communications. The unit comes in tough black or navy-blue casing, conforms to military standards, and floats. Another extra feature: The HX890 has an FM receiver so you can chill with some tunes when the timing’s appropriate.
